Ms Josephine Rioki graces the Symposium on Clinical Cytology as a keynote speaker

The 1st East African Symposium on Clinical Cytology and 1st Annual Scientific Conference for the Cytology Society of Uganda was held on 19th and 20th October, 2022 at Fairway Hotel Kampala, Uganda. This conference comprised of pathologists, cytotechnologists, pathology residents, cytology students and other laboratory scientists from all parts of the world. The conference aimed at;
1. Creating a prefect platform for sharing knowledge, skills and experience in clinical cytology among its practitioners.
2. Identifying the current best practices in cytopathology and cytology education.
3. Demonstrating the role of research in expanding the field of cytopathology and in
optimizing patient care.
4. Providing a forum for advocacy between cytology practitioners and their patients.
5. Enabling participants integrate the recent advances in cytopathology with current practice.


The theme of the conference was “The role of cytology in early disease detection and cancer diagnostics”. Ms Josephine Rioki key speech was on Breast FNAC: Cytomorphological criteria and IAC classification system”. She also presented part of her PhD results in the conference.

Also in attendance were UON MSc Clinical Cytology alumni, Grace Mokua and Febian Ngoma.
