Free Medical Camp in Makueni

The University of Nairobi celebrates 50 years and beyond in providing medical camp to the public and public sensitization. The free neuropathology and neurosurgical medical camp was organised by the Makueni government in partnership with the Brain Tumour Association of Kenya (BTAK) on 1st-3rd June 2023 in three hospitals.

Leading the medical camp was Dr Parmenaus Minda Okwemwa, a consultant neuropathology and Chairman of the Brain Tumour Association of Kenya, and Prof Christopher Musau, a specialist neurosurgeon. They were joined by other neurosurgeon residents and medical students from the Faculty of health sciences.

It was graced by the Makueni Governor, H.E Mutula Kilonzo Jr. The camp aimed to increase awareness on brain tumour and treatment.

About 300 patients were treated at the facilities while two were referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for free specialised surgeries.

Talking to the public through media, they advised them to be keen on Brain Tumour symptoms like Persistent headache, recurrent vomiting, reduced consciousness, seizures, regular fatigue, and memory problems.
