KNH- UON Rare Disease Webinar

This week we are celebrating World Primary Immunodeficiency Week marked between April 22nd to 29th 2024. This year's theme is "Access to Care for all PID Patients Everywhere"

To mark the event, UON, KNH and Primary Immunodeficiency Association - Kenya (PID-Kenya) invite you to participate in the KNH UON Rare Disease Webinar series on Thursday 25th April 2024 from 2.00pm to 3.30pm, touching on Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders in Kenya with Dr Anne Barasa as one of the speakers.

Dr Barasa at the IUIS Conference

On 27th November to 2nd December 2023, Cape Town (South Africa) will be hosting the International Congress of Immunology (IUIS). This is the world’s leading conference in the field of immunology. Every three years, the IUIS Congress assembles immunologists from industry, university, health providers and independent research organizations.

DR ANNE BARASA PRESENTS AT THE HIV/ID JOINT SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

The National AIDS & STI Control Program (NASCOP), along with the HIV Clinicians’ Society of Kenya (HIVCSOK), Infectious Diseases Society of Kenya (IDSK), and the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) organized the first-ever joint conference on Infectious Diseases and HIV. The conference was held on October 23rd to 26th 2023 at Sawela Lodge, Naivasha

Dr Anne Barasa presents at the Kenya Renal Association Conference, Shanzu 2023

Every year, the Kenya Renal Association has organized conferences  that has been attended by reputable and notable number of medical practitioners and industry sponsors. This year’s theme was ‘Multidisciplinary Approach to Kidney Care by Medics Management Services’.

It was held at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort Convention Centre and Spa on 27th August – 30th August 2023. Dr Anne Barasa was privileged to present two presentations. One on Immunology Testing in Transplantation and the other one on Genetic Testing in Chronic Kidney Disease.

 

Dr Barasa leads in the Commissioning of the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory at KNH

On Wednesday, 11th May 2022, President Uhuru Kenyatta inaugurated three state-of-the-art health facilities at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) which included the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory (HLA Lab) where Dr. Barasa was the lead person.

The other facilities commissioned were the Zarina Merali Surgical Daycare Centre and the Centre for Kidney Disease & Organ Transplantation.

The laboratory, the first of its kind in East Africa, will facilitate histocompatibility and genetics testing for solid organ and bone marrow transplantation services.
