H.E Mutula Kilonzo with Dr Okemwa and Dr Musau during Medical camp
The free neuropathology and neurosurgical medical camp was organised by the Makueni government in partnership with the Brain Tumour Association of Kenya (BTAK) on 1st-3rd June 2023 in three hospitals.
Leading the medical camp was Dr Parmenaus Minda Okwemwa, a consultant neuropathology and Chairman of the Brain Tumour Association of Kenya, and Prof Christopher Musau, a specialist neurosurgeon. They were joined by other neurosurgeon residents and medical students from the Faculty of health sciences.
It was graced by the Makueni Governor, H.E Mutula Kilonzo Jr. The camp aimed to increase awareness on brain tumour and treatment.
About 300 patients were treated at the facilities while two were referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for free specialised surgeries.
The public was advised to be keen on Brain Tumour symptoms like Persistent headache, recurrent vomiting, reduced consciousness, seizures, regular fatigue, and memory problems.
