On 4th October 2023, at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Dr Francis Wanyama was part of talks on inception of a collaborative project on Poison and Toxin data center and laboratories in Nairobi and Western Kenya. With UoN, MMUST, Toxbase UK and the University of Edinburgh as the collaborators.
With many Kenyan not able to access medical health services, Dr. Francis Wanyama together with Rainbow 4 Africa WONDFO Biotech Company and other sponsors organized the 35th free medical camp for Nairobi residents.
The medical camp was graced by Mr Flablo Santoni, a scientific attaché at the Italian Embassy and included UON students who volunteered to provide services to the patients. Routine screening test and consultation were done and others referred for further treatments.
WONDFO biotech company in partnership with the Clinical Chemistry unit conducted a training on Friday, 29th September 2023 at 10.45am at the WONDFO-UON training Laboratory training centre, KNH.
The Brain Tumour Association of Kenya led by Dr Okemwa Minda organized a medical camp in partnership with WONDFO Biotech company in Makueni on 16th September 2023.
The medical camp included the MBCHB students and Medical Laboratory Science and Technology (MLST) students who assisted neurosurgical and neuropathology consultations.

Kakamega Deputy Governor H.E Hon Ayub Savula on Friday received a highly automated self-draining US Technology bed from Dr. Frank Wanyama, a UON staff and representative from a US Manufacturing Firm called Easy Drain Products LLC. The special bed is critical in units such as the ICU, surgical ward, renal units, etc
Hon. Savula said the new bed technology will be a game changer in management of patients at the Kakamega County General and Referral Hospital.
Dr. Peter Maturi has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Department. Dr Maturi is a hematologist who served as the Unit head of Hematology and Blood Transfusion unit.
Much appreciation to the outgoing Chairman, Dr Wairimu Waweru for the great leadership and guidance.
The public lecture by Prof. Véronique Blanchard on the Validation of the serum N-glycome based biomarker for ovarian cancer via a multi-center study in Kenya and Germany was held on Thursday 3rd August 2023 at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UoN, KNH campus, Lecture Theatre 3 from 11:00 a.m.
The training centre is located on the first floor of KNH in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The 5th Society of Neuro-Oncology of Sub-Saharan Africa meeting (SNOSSA) was held on the 20th to 22nd July 2023 at the Radisson Blue Upper Hill Hotel. The conference brought together a diverse group of delegates from all across Africa, the Americas, Europe and beyond. It included half day workshop in the different subspecialties of neuro-oncology, developments and research presentations.
The University of Nairobi – Wondfo collaboration provides a foundation to the state of art technology in the discipline of Laboratory medicine.
