Prof Pier on Exchange Programs for Students

The University of Bologna and University of Nairobi have partnered on an exchange programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Speaking at Lecture Theatre III on Thursday, 14th March 2024, Prof Pier Paolo from Department of Medical and Surgical Science, University Of Bologna (Italy) mentioned the opportunities and challenges of the program and urged the students to apply for it either long term (24months) or short time (a few weeks).

UON 70th Graduation Ceremony

The University of Nairobi on Friday, 15th December 2023 graduated over 5,700 graduands, amongst them from the Department of Human Pathology; three Mmed pathology and forty seven Bsc Medical Laboratory Science Technology students.

The 70th Graduation Ceremony was presided by the CS, Education, Hon. Ezekiel Machogu and in attendance was the Ag Chancellor and Chair of Council, Prof. Amukowa Anangwe who confer Degrees and award Diplomas.

DR ANNE BARASA PRESENTS AT THE HIV/ID JOINT SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

The National AIDS & STI Control Program (NASCOP), along with the HIV Clinicians’ Society of Kenya (HIVCSOK), Infectious Diseases Society of Kenya (IDSK), and the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) organized the first-ever joint conference on Infectious Diseases and HIV. The conference was held on October 23rd to 26th 2023 at Sawela Lodge, Naivasha

Dr Anne Barasa presents at the Kenya Renal Association Conference, Shanzu 2023

Every year, the Kenya Renal Association has organized conferences  that has been attended by reputable and notable number of medical practitioners and industry sponsors. This year’s theme was ‘Multidisciplinary Approach to Kidney Care by Medics Management Services’.

It was held at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort Convention Centre and Spa on 27th August – 30th August 2023. Dr Anne Barasa was privileged to present two presentations. One on Immunology Testing in Transplantation and the other one on Genetic Testing in Chronic Kidney Disease.

 

Celebrating National Tree planting Day

To celebrate the National Tree planting Day on 13th November 2023, members of staff, Dr Barasa and Dr Walong participated in the Tree Planting at Ngong Road - Hospital Road junction. This was facilitated by Dr Alfred Odhiambo, a senior radiologist, and ardent enthusiast of the green environment. Dr Odhiambo provided the seedlings and prepared the ground for planting. This exercise was overseen by Nairobi County Environmental Team, Kibra Subcounty.

Dr Anne Barasa presents at the HAEi EMEA Conference, Germany

Hereditary Angioedema International - Europe, Middle East and Africa (HAEi EMEA)Conference was held in Munich, Germany on 1st to 3rd September 2023 bring together patients and caregivers from different regions.

HAE International is a global non-profit network of member organizations dedicated to raising awareness of hereditary angioedema and improving the lives of people with HAE.

This year, Dr Barasa gave a presentation on a cases report on Bowel Obstruction secondary to a small bowel tumour in hereditary angioedema patient. 
 

MLST WHITE COAT EVENT

The event was a white coat ceremony for the first years, Medical Laboratory Science programme. A white coat ceremony is a 'ritual’ in the Faculty of Health Sciences that marks students transitioning from high school to joining a noble medical course.It also serves as an official induction to the faculty and to the programme.

This was our first ever white coat ceremony for the MLST first years to be held since the course was initiated inUON.This was funded by the students, well - wishers ,sponsors and the Department of Human pathology.
