Anatomic Pathology Unit

 

Anatomic pathology is the branch of medicine that studies body organs and tissue . There are two main categories within anatomic pathology. The first is histopathology which involves the examination of sampled whole tissues under the microscope aided by the use of special staining techniques. The second is cytology which is the examination of single cells including Pap smear. The pathologists in the unit are also involved in performing post-mortem examinations at the morgue.

The technologists perform Histology procedures with a turn around time of 3 days, Cytology with a turn around time of 2hours. Also performed is Immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry tests. The staff teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students including clerkship rotation and research projects for both Mmed and PhD students. There are 7 Teaching staff and 7 non teaching staff including;
