Dr Rioki Speaking at the International Accreditation Conference- Preconference 2025

Dr. Josephine N. Rioki wrapped up an inspiring presentation as the one of the speakers in the Pre-conference of the International Accreditation Conference on how accreditation is not about ticking boxes — it's about people.

“You cannot have accreditation without people… Sustaining it requires mentorship, fellowships, and continuous education.”

She also spoke with pride about representing Kenya on the global stage:

“When I work abroad, I carry the face of Kenya — and that face is trusted because of the standards we uphold.”

Dr Zuriel attends KNPHI Meeting

The Kenya National Public Health Institute host a meeting for stakeholders including Dr. Daniel Zuriel to convene an SRS design planning hackathon to translate situational assessment findings into system design requirements for mortality surveillance. 
 

This was hosted by the Director KNPHI MOH at Kyaka hotel, Machakos on Tuesday, 22nd to Friday 25th April

Presentation by Prof. Lutz Mükke on Next Generation digital education platforms

On Wednesday, 2nd April 2025, the Department was graced by a visiting Professor from Lecturio  GmbH, Germany, Prof. Lutz Mükke, to make a presentation on Next Generation digital education platforms for effective teaching of medical courses as well as secure online student evaluation (Examinations). He was welcomed by Dr. Micah Oyaro as the acting Chairman, Department of Human Pathology at the Prof. Kungu's Boardroom at 2pm.

The department welcomes the new Units Heads in the department;

  2. Dr. Valerie Magutu- Hematology and Blood Transfusion Unit
  3. Dr. Zakayo Thaimutha- Clinical Chemistry Unit
  4. Dr. Micah Oyaro- Immunlogy Unit
  5. Dr. Josephine Rioki- Medical Laboratory Science Unit

Sensitization on Digital Pathology

With the increase using of AI, Digital Pathology is making a marking in the clinical practice. Digital pathology is the field that uses digital technology to manage and analyze information from digitized slides.

On 28th February 2025, the Department Staff, KNH staff and postgraduate students were sensitized on the use of digital pathology with AI assisted diagnosis in their routine. This was done by the Fujifilm team in partnership with Science Scope limited at Prof Kungu Boardroom.

Human Pathology staff shine at the Annual Staff Awards Ceremony

On Monday,10th February 2025, the Annual Staff Recognition Awards Ceremony was held at Chandaria Auditorium, University of Nairobi Towers. 
 

It was a memorable moment for Department having four Non Teaching staff being awarded with exemplary performance in the Faculty of Health Sciences, namely Ms. Doris Mokaya, Ms. Veronica Kimilu, Mrs. Deborah Mogi and Ms. Beatrice Omweri. Congratulations, awardees and keep up the good work.

On 30th October 2024, The department held a MLST Curriculum Review meeting with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians & Technologists Board (KMLTTB), Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) representative at the Prof. Alfred Kungu’s Boardroom
