Dr. Wanyama handing over donation of an Ultrasound device

On Monday, Jan 6th, 2025, Dr. Francis Wanyama led Rainbow 4 Africa UK and Kenya in the County Government of Busia, in the donation of an ultrasound device to the Matayos Level 4 Hospital. The equipment was officially received by H.E the Deputy Governor of Busia, Hon. Arthur Odera, alongside the Chief Officer in Charge of the Health, Dr. Wilberforce Lusamba.


The handover was conducted by Dr. Francis Wanyama Mugeni, Chairman of Rainbow for Africa Kenya, who was accompanied by a dedicated team of R4A volunteers.

Sensitization on Digital Pathology

With the increase using of AI, Digital Pathology is making a marking in the clinical practice. Digital pathology is the field that uses digital technology to manage and analyze information from digitized slides.

On 28th February 2025, the Department Staff, KNH staff and postgraduate students were sensitized on the use of digital pathology with AI assisted diagnosis in their routine. This was done by the Fujifilm team in partnership with Science Scope limited at Prof Kungu Boardroom.

On 1st December 2023, Dr. Francis Wanyama met with Wondfo and Nairobi County Council officials on the health agenda for Nairobi County at the Nairobi County offices.

In partnership,they resolved to "Race for life hadi i work for Nairobians". More collaborations to follow up.

Did you know there are 48 blood groups systems?

In addition to ABO and Rh, there are 48 other recognised blood types called blood group systems. This was mentioned in a talk by Prof Robert Flower from the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood in a research by his PhD student, Dr Rachel Githiomi from KNBTS. 
 

The two had visited the department to present their findings and partner with the department in forming a national reference laboratory for blood group and genotyping. The research discovered there are more blood group systems among Kenyan that are not recognized.
