Mr. Wanyama meets with Busia county Governor and team on rapid realization of health agenda

Mr Francis Wanyama was appointed to the Busia County Health Transformation committee. On 8th January 2023, the committee met with the Governor on the rapid realization of health agenda in his five years term. (2022-2027). The agenda is to improve health service delivery in the county.

MITS Training by Dr Walong

The Department of Human Pathology was privileged to host another set of training from 23rd-27th January 2023 on Minimally Invasive Tissue Sampling (MITS), an autopsy technique meant to equip Pathologists, Medical Scientists and Technologist with technical skills that can provide data about causes of death, similar to that obtained through a complete diagnostic autopsy.

UON 68th Graduation Ceremony

On Friday, 16th December 2022 the University’s Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi conferred 6959 degrees and diplomas at the Historic Taifa and Virtually. Among the graduates, the Department had six Mmed pathology, two MSc Clinical Cytology,
three MSc Clinical Chemistry and forty six
Bsc Medical Laboratory Science Technology students.

Neuropathology partnership talks

Brain tumors are one of the most misdiagnosed conditions in the rural counties. Health professionals can improve the situation through establishing partnerships and commitment from County governments in supporting such initiatives.

The Anatomic pathology Unit head, Dr Okemwa and Mr. Francis Wanyama had a neuropathology partnership talks with Neurosurgeon doctors from India led by Dr Sali.

The talks were held at Sarova Panafric Hotel, Nairobi on 9th November 2022 to explore and establish future partnership in the neuropathology field.

 

Human Pathology staff awarded at the PC awards ceremony

It was a joyous day for the Department of Human Pathology to have two staff being awarded at this year’s Staff Performance and Recognition awards ceremony 2021/2022. Ms Beatrice Njoki Githui and Ms Veronica Kimilu were awarded as one of the best performers in the Faculty of Health Sciences in the Non teaching staff category.

The ceremony was held on Monday, 5th December 2022 at the Chandaria Auditorium. It was graced by the Chair of the UON Council, Prof Miriam Were who thanked the awardees and motivated them to raise their expectations.

UON SUPERVISORS VISIT TO CHARITE -BERLIN

Four UON lecturers including Dr Maturi had the pleasure to visit The Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of Europe's largest university hospitals in the frame of the Global Heart berlin-Nairobi program.

The main aim of their visit was to discuss further cooperation for the program and encourage further training and networking opportunities .They attended the World Health Summit that took place from October 16th - October 18th 2022.

They were also able to visit the Institute of General Practice at The Charité University Hospital.

 

Dr Kibet and team pay courtesy call to the Dean

On Tuesday, 20th November 2022, the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Health Sciences was privileged to receive visitors from Switzerland, Denmark, Uganda and Zambia working in collaboration with Kenya Hemophilia Association under the Chairmanship of Dr Kibet Shikuku, also a lecturer in the Department of Human Pathology. The visit was mainly a courtesy call to the Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof George Osanjo to enhance possible collaborations in the creation of a centre of excellence for hemophilia and other bleeding disorders including sickle cell disease.
 

Ms Josephine Rioki graces the Symposium on Clinical Cytology as a keynote speaker

The 1st East African Symposium on Clinical Cytology and 1st Annual Scientific Conference for the Cytology Society of Uganda was held on 19th and 20th October, 2022 at Fairway Hotel Kampala, Uganda. This conference comprised of pathologists, cytotechnologists, pathology residents, cytology students and other laboratory scientists from all parts of the world. The conference aimed at;
1. Creating a prefect platform for sharing knowledge, skills and experience in clinical cytology among its practitioners.
