The Department welcomes both undergraduate and postgraduate students to the new academic year. Learning has started with students learning through various forms including lecture classes, practical demonstration, online classes and tutorials.
The World Health Summit is a global health conference and network that brings together stakeholders from around the world to set the agenda for a healthier future by inspiring innovative solutions for better health and well-being for all.
This year, the event took place in Berlin, Germany and online on 15th to 17th October 2023 under the theme "A Defining Year for Global Health Action".

Congratulations to Beverly Odhiambo, an Medical Laboratory Science and Technology (MLST) outgoing student for carrying the flag of the department high. Beverly was awarded a certificate of award for being the best presenter (student research) in AKMLSO Conference in Mombasa which took place from 10th-13th October 2023
Her research was on Anaplasma detection by PCR-High Resolution Melting using donkey and zebra samples at the Kenya Wildlife Services, 2022 which was supervised by Prof. Nyagol.
Dr. Frederick Okinyi appointed as the New Unit Head for the Hematology and Blood Transfusion unit taking over from Dr. Peter Maturi. Dr. Okinyi is a Hematologist in the department with great experience.
On Wednesday, 11th October 2023, Dr. Francis Wanyama lead a delegation to meet the Faculty’s Dean, Prof. George Osanjo on future collaborations and improvement of the poison and toxicology laboratory in KNH between Rainbow4Africa, University of Nairobi (UoN), Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), University of Edinburgh (UK) and Toxibase(UK).
With many Kenyan not able to access medical health services, Dr. Francis Wanyama together with Rainbow 4 Africa WONDFO Biotech Company and other sponsors organized the 35th free medical camp for Nairobi residents.
The medical camp was graced by Mr Flablo Santoni, a scientific attaché at the Italian Embassy and included UON students who volunteered to provide services to the patients. Routine screening test and consultation were done and others referred for further treatments.

The Brain Tumour Association of Kenya led by Dr Okemwa Minda organized a medical camp in partnership with WONDFO Biotech company in Makueni on 16th September 2023.
The medical camp included the MBCHB students and Medical Laboratory Science and Technology (MLST) students who assisted neurosurgical and neuropathology consultations.
