The Faculty of Health Sciences was pleased to launch Day One of the Inborn Errors of Immunity Series, an important platform aimed at strengthening awareness, diagnosis, and management of primary immunodeficiency disorders.

It featured Dr. Anne Barasa, a Consultant Pathologist and Lecturer in the Thematic Unit of Immunology, Department of Human Pathology, University of Nairobi.

At the Kenya Association of Clinical Pathologists (KACP) Scientific Conference 2025, held on 31st November, Dr. Anne Barasa delivered an insightful presentation exploring the evolving landscape of modern transplant immunology.

Dr. Valerie Magutu, a consultant haematologist, delivered a compelling presentation during the Kenya Association of Clinical Pathologists (KACP) Annual Conference held at PrideInn Paradise, Shanzu, Mombasa, on 30th October.

Her session, titled “Approach to the Non-Malignant Marrow: The Not So Benign,” explored the crucial role of bone marrow examination in disease diagnosis, emphasizing that a bone marrow test is not just a report, it’s a comprehensive consultation.

Professor Walter O. Mwanda is a leading Kenyan Haematologist, widely recognized for his dedication to advancing the care and understanding of blood disorders—especially sickle cell disease. In a recent appearance on Citizen TV’s Uliza Daktari segment on 21st September, Prof. Mwanda delivered an inspiring message of hope to patients and families affected by sickle cell disease. He emphasized that with proper management and lifestyle adjustments, individuals can live full, meaningful lives, stating:

Professor Alfred Kung’u is one of Kenya’s pioneering pathologists and a founding figure in the growth of pathology education at the University of Nairobi. He devoted his career to advancing medical training, diagnostic practice, and mentorship within the university and the wider medical community.

The University of Nairobi’s Department of Ophthalmology, in partnership with the Department of Human Pathology, organised the Annual Workshop for the Retinoblastoma Genetics Project held on 24th and 25th July 2025 at the KAVI-ICR Boardroom.

This years celebration of World Accreditation Day Dr. Josephine Rioki was honored by Kenya Accreditation Service as one of the top Accreditors from different categories on 9th June 2025.

Dr. Rioki was Awarded for Long Service Team Lead/Technical Assessor of the Year . 

Dr. Josephine N. Rioki wrapped up an inspiring presentation as the one of the speakers in the Pre-conference of the International Accreditation Conference on how accreditation is not about ticking boxes — it's about people.

“You cannot have accreditation without people… Sustaining it requires mentorship, fellowships, and continuous education.”

She also spoke with pride about representing Kenya on the global stage:

“When I work abroad, I carry the face of Kenya — and that face is trusted because of the standards we uphold.”
